WHO WE ARE + CONTACT

Flash Foxy’s Summerfest is brought to you by our girlcrew and volunteers, our dedicated sponsors, and the awesome small businesses and residents of the beautiful town of Fayetteville, WV.

The 2016 Women’s Climbing Festival was our inaugural festival and the first of it’s kind (see photos from Bishop here and Chattanooga here). Summerfest is our first all-gender event; a climbing festival to celebrate women, led by women, and open to all! Our hope is to continue the conversation around diversity and inclusivity in the climbing community and outdoor industry among all members of the community. We hope to not only bring experienced climbers together but also provide a safe space for beginner climbers to come and learn about all that climbing has to offer!

OUR GOALS:
EXPANDING THE COMMUNITY OF WOMEN CLIMBERS
With over 300 participants of all genders attending the festival (between participants, volunteers, guides, stewardship leaders and facilitators, and athletes and vendors) this year. Summerfest is a new type of event that is meant to complement, not replace, our Women’s Climbing Festival by broadening the conversation in spaces dedicated to diversity and inclusivity in the climbing community and outdoor industry. We look to highlight and celebrate women and put them at the forefront while inviting the climbing community as a whole. All speakers, panels, presentations will focus on the stories, challenges, and triumphs around women. This includes a focus on intersectional feminism and the challenges faced by many underrepresented groups in climbing (i.e. LGBTQ+, POC, adaptive).

A SAFE SPACE FOR EVERYONE
Summerfest welcomes all participants of any gender (cis and trans) and enbies to join us at the New River Gorge. Our goal is to create and maintain a safe and diverse space where consent and respect are our first priorities. Harassment of any kind (unwanted contact, verbal or physical abuse, racism, homophobia, transphobia, body-shaming, etc.) will NOT be tolerated and will lead to being asked to leave.

CREATING PAID OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN
Clinics and workshops are led by female athletes, guides, and facilitators. In addition, we also work with female photographers, yoga teachers, and panelists to increase opportunities in the outdoor industry for all women.

SUPPORTING THE TOWN OF FAYETTEVILLE
We partnered closely with local small businesses and organizations including Water Stone Outfitters. Excluding the payment given to female athletes, facilitators, panelists, photographers and other female professionals involved with the festival, we spend most of our budget locally, giving back into the local economy.

CONTRIBUTING TO INCREASE ACCESS AND MINIMIZE IMPACT
With generous raffle donations from our sponsors, 100% of the proceeds go to the Access Fund and local stewardship nonprofits, who will be receiving the money equally. This money is earmarked specifically for projects in Fayetteville. We also co-host a stewardship day with Access Fund.

ABOUT FLASH FOXY
Flash Foxy was created by founder, Shelma Jun, in April 2014. It is a multi-media online platform that was created to celebrate women climbing with women and to be a place where women can come to feel inspired by and connected to lady climbers. We share stories about our thoughts, experiences, and adventures as badass women.
