SATURDAY

Saturday Clinic

intro to outdoor movement

with Maiza Lima (she/her) presented by La Sportiva

Climber Requirements: Can top rope 5.7 indoors and know how to top rope belay.

Ever venture outside to climb and wonder where all of the colorful holds are? This clinic will go over everything you need to know to climb real rock. From how to read the route before you pull on to what to look for when you’re puzzled and stuck. We’ll dive into the fundamentals of climbing movement and how they translate to the outdoors, and cover essential skills such as the best ways to get to that first bolt safely, managing the rope (as a belayer and climber), and how to trust those oh so small feet.

Saturday Clinic

Trad for sport climbers

with Genevive Walker (she/her) presented by Flash Foxy Education

Climber Requirements: Must know how to belay someone lead climbing. Some experience leading sport climbs, indoors or outdoors, is required.

This clinic is for sport climbers who are ready to venture away from bolted cliffs, whether ready to lead or just stoked to follow, and learn the technical skills and components for traditional climbing! We’ll cover the essentials like learning how to place stoppers and cams, and we’ll also have candid conversations about risk and how to manage it when the variables start to add up. Our instructors will provide low-risk environments for practice and review the skills you need to continue your practice after the course. Maybe we’ll even convince you that trad can be less scary than sport climbing!

Saturday Clinic

Falling!!! on bolts

with Lor Sabourin (they/them) presented by SCARPA

Climber Requirements: Must be able to comfortably top rope 5.9. Must know how to lead belay. Some experience leading sport or trad is helpful but not required.

This training addresses falling directly to help improve commitment. We do progressive falling practice followed by movement, breathing, resting, and body/mind awareness exercises. Students leave understanding how to take appropriate risks and how to commit to those risks. Students will practice the following skills during this course: fall properly, give a dynamic (cushioned) belay, break a climb into smaller risk events, assess risk effectively, distinguish between no- and yes-fall zones, engage no- and yes-fall zones appropriately, make appropriate risk decisions, improve body/mind awareness, rest effectively, improve breathing, create flow and momentum, deal with climbing stress, commit more deliberately, reduce fear, and more!

SUNDAY

Sunday Clinic

Bop to the top rope

with Maiza Lima (she/her) presented by Arc’teryx

Climber Requirements: All levels welcome!

This course equips climbers with the skills they need to take their climbing to new heights and get out on some ropes. We’ll cover the essentials like managing the rope as a climber, how to set up an anchor, and how to get your gear back when it’s time to leave. We’ll dive into the basics of how to have a great time cragging and answer all-important questions like: “What snacks should I bring?” and “how do you get the rope up there?” Whether it’s your first time touching non-plastic rocks or you’re a trad mami who’s in the mood to clip bolts, this clinic is ideal for any climber who would like to learn more about roped climbing outside.

Sunday Clinic

Shorty sending tactics

with Grey Curnutte (they/he) presented by Flash Foxy Education

Climber Requirements: Must know how to top rope belay.

Sometimes to reach new heights you have to approach with a different perspective. This clinic is all about thinking outside the box and learning how to work with what you've got in a tall climber's world. We'll talk about gear tricks, climbing strategy, and how to healthily manage your emotions and frustration when interacting with failure and things that just feel impossible. This clinic is open to everyone and will offer tips that benefit all climbers, regardless of size, but is tailored to those 5'4" and under.
