Learn how to plan a trip into the backcountry, create your own run course & set your own goals. Learn how to prepare, pack & train, plan altitude nutrition and acquire permits to connect passes to peaks. We will discuss terrain preparation from long distance high altitude gains on trails plus leaving the trail to basic mountaineering, ridges and scrambling. This workshop can help those looking to get into the backcountry solo and those looking to plan group trips for friends of all levels of athleticism. We'll talk about establishing a base camp that works for peak baggers and lake loungers alike vs. the support needed to go out on a big day alone. Bring your questions about how to prepare both packing and safety wise for the backcountry!
Who is it for? All are welcome for knowledge! Keep in mind that traversing technical terrain and scrambling up to 4th/low 5th class terrain is often part of the summit approach. Prior experience in mountain running to make sure you want to commit to 12+ hours in the mountains moving recommended prior to embarking on a backcountry trail run. Beginners, hikers and slower movers are welcome to come to learn more about backcountry and get them to be a base camp crew for athletes looking to do the big days.
